Brief Description
Mr. Yip Chun-to, Adrian, B.B.S., M.H., J.P., Chairman of the Ping Wo Fund Advisory Committee and Mr. Laurie Lo, J.P., Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs gave speeches at the ceremony. Mr. Yip appreciated the efforts of different parties in the campaign. “It is very encouraging to see the active participation of the public during the campaign. The Ping Wo Fund will continue to put efforts to instill public positive values towards football as a healthy sport event rather than a means of gambling in spite of the end of the campaign,” said Mr. Yip. “Home Affairs Bureau will continue to support Ping Wo Fund in the promotion of anti-gambling in the future,” said Mr. Lo, Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs.
Actors Oscar Leung and Carlo Ng shared with the audience their sporting experiences. They both considered sporting activities are beneficial, and hoped the public could also see football as healthy sport, but not a gambling tool. Leslie George Santos, the former Hong Kong footballer awardee also shared his views on anti-gambling. He shared the successful elements of being a Hong Kong footballer. ‘’Seeing football as a healthy sport and focusing on merely skills and the tournaments help me become one of the most successful football players in Hong Kong,” he mentioned. He emphasized that football should not be seen as a gambling tool, and placing bets was not an appropriate way of supporting football players.
